MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State scored 21 points off of 24 turnovers by the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team and limited the Braves to just six points in the third quarter to secure a 58-47 victory on Saturday afternoon at The Loch.
It was just the second loss in the last five contests for the Braves (9-11, 4-8 PBC) who fell to 5-10 all-time on the road in the series. The Lakers (11-9, 7-5) have now won four-straight games in the series with the Black & Gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED |
1ST QUARTER |
The Braves limited the hosts to just 4-for-20 shooting in the first quarter and eventually took a 16-12 advantage into the second stanza. Clayton State led 10-8 after a jumper from Taneria Wilson, but the visitors got back-to-back 3-pointers from Melanie Horne to storm ahead. |
2ND QUARTER |
The Lakers scored the first five points of the period and gained a 17-16 advantage with 8:46 showing on the clock. UNCP would eventually take their largest lead of the afternoon, 28-23, off of two made free throws from Melanie Horne with two minutes left before the break. Clayton State scored the final basket of the half, but UNCP took a 28-26 lead into the locker rooms. |
3RD QUARTER |
Clayton State swung the momentum heavily in their favor by opening the second half with a 16-0 run and stretched their lead out to 42-30 with just less than two minutes in the period. The hosts held UNC Pembroke scoreless for eight minutes before Aliyah Famer broke the silence with a layup. The Lakers held a hefty 45-34 lead going into the final stanza. |
4TH QUARTER |
CSU took its largest lead of the afternoon, 50-34, following two free throws from Dejah Montgomery just two minutes into the quarter. UNCP was able to trim its deficit back to single digits, 54-45, with four minutes left in regulation, but that would be as close as it would come in the final minutes. |

+ Melanie Horne led the Braves with 13 point and has now scored in double-figures in six of the last seven contests.
+ ShaNiya Lester added 12 points and six rebounds.
+ Aliyah Farmer also scored in double-figures with 10 points. She also logged seven boards and two blocks.
+ Deja McCain pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. |
