AUGUSTA, Ga. – Hot-handed Augusta converted on 52 percent of its field goal attempts in the second and finished the game with a 27-for-36 success rate from the free throw line to secure a 69-63 win over the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The outcome marked the fifth loss in the last six road outings for the Braves (10-14, 5-11 PBC) who fell to 4-11 away from Pembroke with the setback as well. The Jaguars (9-15, 6-10), who stopped an eight-game losing streak at Francis Marion on Wednesday, have now won consecutive games for the first time since early January.

HOW IT HAPPENED |
1ST QUARTER |
Augusta scored nine-straight points to eventually push its lead out to 12-4 on a 3-pointer by Zairya West at the 3:58 mark. The Braves stopped the bleeding on Aliyah Farmer's layup with 2:33 to play, but the hosts would inevitably take a 15-6 advantage into the second period. |
2ND QUARTER |
UNCP opened the second period with eight-straight points to trim its deficit to just one point, 15-14, on Aliyah Farmer's layup at the 7:25 mark. The Braves took their first lead of the afternoon, 19-18, on a 3-pointer from Melanie Horne with 5:37 left before the intermission, and eventually lugged a 32-28 advantage into the break. |
3RD QUARTER |
Augusta chipped away at its deficit and eventually knotted the score up at 40 points apiece with a 3-pointer from Cameryn Wilson just before the midway point of the third period. The Jaguars followed by closing out the quarter with a 12-2 run that gave them the lead for good. |
4TH QUARTER |
The hosts took their largest lead of the afternoon, 60-46, on a fastbreak later from Kiera Howard with six minutes remaining in regulation. The Braves cut their deficit back to just five points, 68-63, on a trey from Melanie Horne with 34 ticks remaining in regulation, but that would be the closest the Braves would come. |
