HUNINGTON, W.Va. – Joshua Chepkesir captured the conference championship in the Men's 5,000-meter Run with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14:09.31 to highlight action for the UNC Pembroke track & field teams on the opening day of the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
On the women's side,
Raigan Evans broke her own school record and captured third in the Weight Throw with a throw of 16.13 meters.
Caroline Flax and
Alayna Richardson tied for third place in the Pole Vault with a school-record mark of 3.30 meters.
The squads combined for a total of 44 personal-best marks on Friday, and both teams sit in second place in the team standings heading into the final day of the event on Saturday. The men's team trails front-running Charleston by 11 points, while the women's team is just one point behind West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Braves will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of the MEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The first event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
