Leviner Tosses Perfect Game As Softball Sweeps Fayetteville State

FAYETTEVILLE – Malerie Leviner pitched the ninth no-hitter in NCAA Division II history of the program and just the second perfect game in as many years in the front half of the twinbill to lead the UNC Pembroke softball team to a sweep of Fayetteville State on Saturday afternoon at Lamon Street Park. UNCP captured game one, 5-0, and secured the sweep with a 5-1 victory in game two of the doubleheader.
 
It is the first individual perfect game for the program, as Leviner teamed up with Breezy Yelton last year for a combined 5-inning perfect game in a win against Elizabeth City State on Feb. 10, 2019
 
The Braves (13-9) have been victorious in the last 15 meetings with Fayetteville State, including wins in each of the last eight meetings in Fayetteville. The Broncos (5-9) have now dropped their last their last eight outings.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 2 Tatum Brummitt got the inning going with a leadoff double down the left field line followed by a walk from Jordan Adcox. An ill-timed error by Fayetteville State put Emily Biddle on first and scored Brummitt with the game's first run. Adcox scored on a passed ball before Kaitlynn Norton's RBI bunt capped off the 3-run frame.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 M'Smrya Seward started the inning with a leadoff double to the gap in left field before stealing third base. Mikayla Jackson laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Seward and put the Broncos up early, 1-0.
TOP 2 Jordan Adcox got the offense started for the Braves with a single up the middle followed by a walk from Emily Biddle. Carson Powell smacked a two-out dinger over the leftfield fence to put UNCP on top, 3-1.

The Braves will begin Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Georgia to take on No. 6 Young Harris (15-3, 0-0 PBC). First pitch of the twinbill is set for 1 p.m. at E.D. Rivers Field.
