PEMBROKE – Good news came in bunches, again, for the UNC Pembroke swimming team on Sunday morning with the initial release of the SwimCloud.com computer national rankings. The Braves are ranked 8
th among the nation's premier NCAA Division II swimming programs, while also boasting a bevy of top-10 rankings in individual events.
The CollegeSwimming Dual Meet Rankings simulate teams in a head-to-head dual meet. Scores are calculated over nine individual events and two relays. Two scorers per event are included in the simulation that includes all meets over the last six weeks, and diving events are not included.
The Black & Gold is among 10 NCAA Southeast Region teams included in the organization's top-39 teams, but is joined by just No. 1 Queens and No. 2 Carson-Newman in the top 10.
Gillian Manning is the nation's top swimmer in the 500-yard Freestyle, but is also listed in the No. 2 spot in the 200-yard Butterfly and No. 6 in the 200-yard Freestyle.
Mariel Mencia Martinez is ranked No. 2 in the 50-yard Freestyle and No. 7 in the 100-yard Freestyle. Two of UNCP's relay squads boast top-10 rankings, including the 400-yard Freestyle Relay squad (No. 3).
The Black & Gold will resume its 2021-22 campaign on Friday when it heads to Mars Hill to battle both Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne at MHC's Harrell Pool. Competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
