MARS HILL – The seventh-ranked UNC Pembroke swimming team collected eight individual event titles and nine-runner-up finishes, including 1-2 finishes in a trio of events, to cruise to wins over both No. 30 Mars Hill (171-71) and Lenoir-Rhyne (142-100) on Friday evening inside MHC's Harrell Pool.
 
Mariel Mencia Martinez took top honors in the 50- and 200-yard Freestyle, as well as the 50-yard Butterfly, to lead the way for the Braves (3-0) who have captured 11 of their last 14 dual meet matchups dating back to the 2019-20 campaign. The win over Mars Hill (0-2) snapped a three-meet skid in the series with the Lions, while the Black & Gold has captured two-straight meetings with Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1).
 
Gillian Manning climbed to the top of the podium in the 1000-yard Freestyle, while freshman Ianna Gomez Veloz topped the field in the 50-yard Breaststroke. Ketlyn Rodriguez Matos (100-yard Breaststroke), Nathalia Silva (500-yard Freestyle) and the 200-yard Freestyle Relay squads took home event titles as well.
 
The Braves will now get a much-needed month-long break from action before resuming their 2021-22 schedule on November 6 at the Guilford College Invitational. That meet will be held inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
