GREENSBORO – Newcomer Ianna Gomez Veloz broke a 7-month-old school record in the 100-yard Breaststroke, and then swam the second leg of a school record-breaking performance by the 200-yard Medley Relay squad, to lead the 34^th-ranked UNC Pembroke swimming team to championship honors at the Guilford College Invitational on Saturday.
 
Gomez Veloz, a product of the Dominican Republic, was one of three individual event winners on the day for the Black & Gold. Senior Gillian Manning climbed to the top of the podium in both the 100-yard Butterfly and 200-yard Freestyle, while Mariel Mencia Martinez won event crowns in the 50- and 100-yard Freestyle disciplines.
 
The Braves also captured top honors in the 200-yard Freestyle and 200-yard Medley Relay races as well.
 
Manning added runner-up finishes in the 100-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Backstroke, while Mencia Martinez was second in the 100-yard Butterfly. Nathalia Silva finished runner-up in the 200-yard Freestyle for the Braves as well.
 
The Braves will resume their 2021-22 regular season schedule, Nov. 18-20, when they head to Cary for the William Peace Invitational inside the Triangle Aquatic Center.That meet will be held inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
