No. 24 Baseball Polishes Off Weekend Sweep At Georgia Southwestern

PEMBROKE – Georgia Southwestern struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab its second lead of the weekend, but the 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team rallied for a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to finish off a weekend sweep of the Hurricanes with a 5-4 triumph on Sunday afternoon.
 
The victory pushed UNCP's (15-5, 12-3 PBC) win streak out to seven games, while also giving the Braves their third weekend sweep of the 2021 campaign. It is the first time this season that Georgia Southwestern (8-9, 7-8) has failed to register at least one win in a league series.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 Gregory Wozniak led off the frame with a double down the right field line, and eventually scored the game's first run via a RBI single off the bat of Jeffrey Omohundro. Gunner George hit the last of three-straight one-out singles by the Hurricanes to bring Omohundro racing home with the 2-0 lead.
TOP 5 Christian Jayne drew a leadoff walk, and eventually did the rest himself by stealing second base and advancing home on a pair of costly errors. Wellington Guzman walked with one out showing, used an ensuing error to get to within 90 feet of home plate, and scored on a sac fly from Trevor Clemons.
TOP 6 Spencer Faulkner laced a leadoff single past the diving shortstop, and scored the go-ahead run about a minute later on a RBI triple from River Ryan. Ryan would score seconds later on an ill-timed wild pitch.
TOP 9 The Braves added an insurance run they would eventually need when Grant Elliott doubled to deep left field and eventually scored on a RBI single through the left side by Garrett Littleton.
