INDIANAPOLIS – Newcomer
Gillian Manning became the NCAA qualifier in the five-year history of the UNC Pembroke swimming program on Saturday when the Fayetteville native was included in the field for three different events at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
Manning, who already has 10 school record-breaking performances to her credit this season, added several more notches to her collegiate resume with the announcement. The Fayetteville Academy product will compete as part of the field in the 200-yard Butterfly event, as well as 200- and 500-yard Freestyle events at the NCAA Championships, March 17-20, in Birmingham, Ala.
The semester-break addition to the squad owns school records in all four events that she will take part in inside the Birmingham Crossplex in two weeks. She tacked up school records in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:50.51), the 500-yard Freestyle (4:56.07) and the 200-yard Butterfly (2:03.22) at last weekend's Queens-hosted Royal Open.
Manning has also swam a leg on three school record-breaking relay teams this season as well.
