PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team struck first in the opening game, but 9
th-ranked Young Harris put up six runs in the fourth inning for a 7-4 victory on Friday afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field. The Braves, however, put the leadoff batter on in five out of the six innings in game two to secure the series split with a 8-3 win in the nightcap.
The victory in game two for the Braves (22-10, 10-4 PBC) marks the first win against a ranked opponent since the 2016 season, and is just the third win against Young Harris all-time. The Mountain Lions (27-8, 14-2 PBC) had their six-game win streak snapped and are now 7-3 when playing on the road.

Lauren Hilbourn reached on a fielding error and then advanced to second from a sacrifice bunt by Alex Watkins. Hilbourn moved to third after a passed ball, but scored when Rendi Wetherington smacked a double to right center field. |

Young Harris used back to back doubles from Jill Torres and Carly Rigsbee to plate their first run before Haylie Shope sent one over the left field fence to put the Mountain Lions on top 3-1. Young Harris loaded the bases with singles from Morgan Curley and Katelynn Hodges and a walk from Maddie Urquiola. Natalie Corbin singled to the outfield grass to score two runs, and an ill-timed passed by plated the sixth run of the frame for the Mountain Lions. |

The Braves put runners on first and second after infield singles from Rendi Wetherington and Mary Sells. Jordan Adcox smacked a single to the outfield to score Wetherington. Tatum Brummitt reached on a fielder's choice to score Sells, but a double to center field from Alex Watkins scored two for the Braves. Lauren Hilbourn kept the inning going with a single up the middle to score Watkins and put UNCP ahead 5-2. |
