HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Barton jumped out to an early 13-6 lead off of a trey from Akira Wiggins with 6:15 remaining in the opening quarter. Alcenia Purnell answered with a three of her own to trim the Braves deficit back to 13-9 two minutes later, but the Bulldogs closed out the frame on an 8-2 scoring surge to hold a 21-11 lead heading into the second period.
2ND QUARTER
Barton took its largest lead of the evening, 31-16, when Shanika Peterkin converted on the old-fashioned 3-point play 2-1/2 minutes into the quarter. The hosts used a 10-3 scoring run to whittle the deficit back to 34-26 with 2:40 before the half, but both teams suffered cold shooting before heading to the locker rooms.
3RD QUARTER
The Bulldogs pushed their lead back out to double-digits, 41-28, when Lauren Walker drained a bucket three minutes into the half. UNCP continued to chip away at the deficit, 41-34, thanks to a fastbreak layup from Aniah McManus with 4:15 on the clock, but the Bulldogs limited UNCP to just 3-for-15 shooting from the field to hold a 49-38 advantage heading into the final stanza.
4TH QUARTER
A Gabby Smith layup cut the Braves deficit to 55-50 with 2-1/2 minutes left in regulation. UNCP limited visiting Barton to just 3-for-16 shooting from the field during the period, but the Bulldogs knocked down the final four free throw attempts to halt the comeback.
