PEMBROKE – Tiara Williams canned a 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining to knot the score at 67 apiece, but Emmanuel drove down the court for a layup with one second remaining to slip by the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team 69-67 on Monday night at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Braves (19-10, 17-7 CC) finish the 2021-22 season with their highest win total since the 1991-92 season, while also registering the most wins at home since the 2016-17 season. The Lions (11-16, 19-13 CC) will play Chowan on Friday at Wofford for the Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED |
1ST QUARTER |
A layup from Courtney Smith just under the five-minute mark gave UNCP a 12-11 lead. Emmanuel took a slight 16-15 lead with a pair of free throws from Sydney Wyatt with 3:13 remaining in the period. The hosts closed out the frame on a 6-0 scoring surge to hold a 21-16 lead heading into the second quarter. |
2ND QUARTER |
UNCP would take what would be its largest lead of the night, 28-20, off of a fastbreak trey from Kelci Adams at the 7:45 mark. The Lions chipped away at their deficit, 28-25, with a jumper in the paint from Jazmin Allen halfway through the quarter, but UNCP pushed its lead back out to 31-25 with a 3-pointer from Alcenia Purnell. Emmanuel outscored UNC Pembroke 6-2 in the final minutes, but trailed 33-31 as the teams headed into the locker rooms. |
3RD QUARTER |
A layup from Diamond Fedrick at the three-minute mark put the hosts on top 44-43. Emmanuel connected on 63.6 percent of their shots during the quarter and outscored UNC Pembroke 11-5 in the final minutes to hold a 54-49 advantage heading into the final stanza. |
4TH QUARTER |
A 9-3 run to start the period pushed the Braves back out in front 58-57 with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. Lexi Senghammee knocked down two free throws with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to give Emmanuel a 67-64 lead. Tiara Williams drained a three from the corner to knot the score at 67 apiece, but the Lions drove down the court for the final score of the game. |

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE |
+ Alcenia Purnell nearly matched a career-high with a game-best 25 points. Purnell was 5-for-9 from beyond the arc in 38 minutes of action.
+ Zaria Clark recorded her fourth-straight double-digit scoring game with 12 points. The freshman was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and pulled down six rebounds. |

NOTABLES |
+ The Black & Gold connected on 39.4 percent of their shots from the field. It was the 23rd time this season that UNCP has shot better than 35 percent from the field.
+ UNC Pembroke connected on 8-for-10 of their free throw attempts. However, Emmanuel went to the line 32 times and knocked down 28 of those attempts.
+ The Braves picked up 30 points from inside the paint and 23 points from its bench. UNCP also shots 36.8 percent from the 3-point line, which marks the best in seven games. |
