Baseball Rallies Late To Stymie Queens

CHARLOTTE – Home-standing Queens rallied all the way back from an early five-run deficit to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh, but Ethan Ott and Bobby Dixon both homered in the eighth to power the UNC Pembroke baseball team past the Royals, 10-8, on Tuesday afternoon at Tuckaseegee Dream Fields.

It was the third win in the last four outings for the Braves (9-5) who will close out a six-game road trip on Wednesday at USC Aiken. The result snapped a four-game win streak for the Royals (9-7) who already have series wins over Flagler and Tusculum under their belt this season.

Christian Jayne and Trent Harris both drew walks to force in another run, and Spencer Faulkner (groundout) and Wellington Guzman capped off the scoring in the inning with run-scoring outs.
BOT 7 After tacking up a goose egg in the top of the seventh despite the Black & Gold loading the bases with its first three at-bats, Riley Cheek doubled to lead off the bottom of the frame, and scored two batters later on a double play ball that gave the Royals their first lead of the afternoon, 8-7.
TOP 8 Ethan Ott cranked a two-strike offering over the fence in rightfield to knot the game up, but Gage Hammonds kept the rally going with an ensuing single and Bobby Dixon crushed another two-strike offering deep over the fence in left field to put the Black & Gold up, 10-8.
