WILMINGTON - The UNC Pembroke track & field teams combined for 11 top-3 finishes to highlight action for the outdoor season opener at the UNCW Invitational on Saturday at the Greene Track & Field Complex.
On the men's side,
Delsin Burkhart bested the field in the 1500-meter Run for an event title, while Norman Junker captured an event title in the 5000-meter Run by establishing a new personal best time of 15:37.74. Newcomer
Cole Thomas also logged an event title in Pole Vault with a height of 4.25-meters.
On the women's side,
Savannah Watkins claimed runner-up honors in both the 100-meter Hurdles and the Long Jump. Watkins also competed in the 200-meter Dash and placed 13th with a time of 27.07.
Brookelyn Johnson (800m Run) and
Jackline Kosgei (1500m Run) landed fourth-place finshes in their respective events.
The teams combined for a total of 35 personal-best marks for the outdoor season opener. The Black & Gold will be back in action on March 18 for the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The two-day meet will be held at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Conway, S.C.
