PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball shot better than 40 percent in two quarters and scored 24 points in the paint on the way to a key 58-42 victory against Mount Olive on Wednesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Braves (14-7, 11-2 CC) stretch their home win streak out to six games and improve to 17-0 all-time against Mount Olive in Pembroke. The Trojans (10-11, 6-7 CC) have now lost their last three outings and fall to 2-7 when playing on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED |
1ST QUARTER |
Both teams struggled to get the offense started with Mount Olive scoring the first bucket of the game to take the early lead with 7:32 on the clock. Alcenia Purnell ignited a 7-0 scoring run for UNC Pembroke to give the hosts a 13-5 advantage. The Braves shot 41.7 percent from the field and held a 13-7 lead heading after the opening quarter. |
2ND QUARTER |
UNCP extended its lead out to 21-9 after a jumper at the top of the key from Zaria Clark with 4:26 remaining until halftime. UMO trimmed its deficit back to 23-16 after a pair of free throws from Reagan Hune, but the Braves held a slight 25-19 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. |
3RD QUARTER |
The Braves opened the have shooting 46.7 percent from the field and took a 39-28 lead after a putback layup from Kelci Adams with 2-1/2 minutes on the clock. A 7-0 UNCP capped off with a trey at the buzzer from Alcenia Purnell gave the hosts a comfortable 46-32 lead heading into the final stanza. |
4TH QUARTER |
An old-fashioned 3-point play from Lillian Flantos followed by a trey from the corner from Kelci Adams gave the Black & Gold its largest lead of the night, 56-36, with 4:32 left in regulation. Both teams shot 33.3 percent from the field, but Courtney Smith's jumper with 1:41 remaining marked the final bucket of the game. |

+ Courtney Smith registered a game-high 16 points keyed by a perfect 8-for-8 performance from the charity stripe. The redshirt junior also grabbed a trio of rebounds and had one steal.
+ Lillian Flantos recorded a career-best 13 points on a 6-for-8 shooting night. Flantos flirted with a double-double pulling down seven rebounds. The redshirt junior also had a pair of blocks, steals, and assists in 29 minutes of work.
+ Zaria Clark also just missed a double-double finishing with 10 points and six rebounds. The Stanley native picked up three steals and had one assist. |

+ UNC Pembroke has now logged a better shooting percentage against its last eight opponents. The Braves finished Wednesday's contest shooting 38.9 percent from the field, and limited the Trojans to 28.8-percent shooting.
+ The Braves have now out rebounded its last four opponents in Pembroke, including a 38-36 advantage on the boards against UMO.
+ The home team has now won the last seven meetings. With Wednesday's victory, UNCP remains a perfect 17-0 when playing Mount Olive in Pembroke. |
