Shepherd Clinches Weekend Series With No. 13 Baseball

PEMBROKE – Visiting Shepherd offset an early 1-0 deficit with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning, and then plated a trio of late insurance runs, to clinch its weekend series with the No. 13 UNC Pembroke baseball team on the strength of a 6-3 win on Saturday at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The setback marked the third-straight loss for the Braves (9-3) who mustered just six hits on the afternoon, while also matching a season-high with four errors as well. Shepherd (3-3) has now taken three of the last four matchups in the series with the Black & Gold.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3 Spencer Faulkner climbed aboard via a one-out single, stole second base and moved to third via an ill-timed passed ball by the Rams. Ethan Ott drew a full-count walk to put runners at the corners for the hosts, who then executed a disguised stolen base attempt that brought Faulkner racing home after Ott was caught in a pickle.
TOP 4 Shepherd tacked up singles in two of its first three at-bats of the frame, and knotted the score up on a RBI single up the middle off of the bat of Andrew Edwards. UNCP appeared to escape the inning two batters later, but an overturned call at third base paved the way for two more go-ahead runs by the Rams who held the lead the rest of the way out.
