No. 13/18 Baseball Rolls Past Visiting Catawba

PEMBROKE – Visiting Catawba used two hits and a trio of errors to forge a 1-run lead in the top of the third inning, but the 18th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team sent 15 batters to the plate in a freebie-filled 10-run sixth to steamroll the Indians, 15-6, on Wednesday evening at Sammy Cox Field.
 
It was the second-straight win for the Braves (11-3) who totaled 15 hits, 10 walks and a pair of bean balls in Wednesday's win – the last rung of an 8-game home stand for the Black & Gold. The result snapped a 3-game win streak for Catawba (9-6) who utilized the services of 10 pitchers in the outing.
 
Rhett James (3-0) struck out four batters and surrendered just two hits and a lone earned run in three innings of relief to pick up his team-leading third victory of the campaign. Five other pitchers saw action in the contest for the Braves as well.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 3 Catawba picked up two hits in the third, but utilized a trio of costly errors by the Black & Gold to plate a trio of unearned runs and negate an early 2-0 deficit. Blake Marsh put the Indians ahead late in the frame with a 2-out single up the middle that brought home a pair of runs.
BOT 6 UNCP sent 15 batters to the plate in a 10-run sixth inning that featured seven walks and six hits. Jake Bradley and Carlos Amezquita drew consecutive bases-loaded walks to give the hosts the lead, but the Braves also used 2-run hits from Christian Jayne, Joey Rezek and Will Hood to fuel the big inning as well.

UP NEXT
UNCP will hit the road for the second time this season when it heads to Murfreesboro for a Saturday/Sunday series against Conference Carolinas foe Chowan (0-12, 0-6 CC). The squads will open up the weekend with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
