GREENVILLE, S.C. – A pair of top performances on Saturday at the Braves Classic paved the way for UNC Pembroke women's track and field student-athlete
Lillian Marino who has been named as the Conference Carolinas Field Athlete of the Week, officials announced Tuesday.
A native of Fort Wright, Ky., Marino started the competition by winning the Hammer Throw title on Saturday. Marino logged a toss of 46.85-meters in the event to beat the field. The redshirt senior also picked up a runner-up finish in Shot Put with a mark of 10.18-meters. Marino moved into fourth place on the Conference Carolinas standings after her performance in the Hammer Throw, and is also in fourth place in the conference for Shot Put.
The announcement marks the second weekly honor of the year for Marino, but the first of the outdoor season. Marino earned the honor during the indoor season on Jan. 31. She is also the first field athlete to claim the award for the outdoor season for the Black & Gold.
