PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke took a 6-0 lead after one inning of play, and then added on in the middle innings to put the game away en route to a 19-1 non-conference win over Glenville State on Tuesday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
Six UNCP (16-3) pitchers combined to allow just three hits on the day, while blanking the Pioneers (5-6) until the top of the eighth.
Tuesday's contest was the first time the two programs have faced off. With the win, the Black & Gold improved to 12-0 this season when playing on its home field.
UNCP will be back in action Friday, March 8, as they welcome Emmanuel to town for a Conference Carolinas three-game set. Game 1 of the series is set for Friday at 6 p.m., with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. to complete the series.
