HARTSVILLE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke picked up a 31-13 win over Shorter, but fell to second-ranked Lander in Conference Carolinas dual action Thursday afternoon hosted at Coker.

Sam Hutchison, Jose Zambrano Canuto, and Jackson Buck each picked up bonus-point wins in the win over Shorter, while Cooper Davis picked up a tech. fall win, with Logan Robinson and Keegan Roberson each bringing home ranked wins in the dual against Lander.

The Black & Gold will be back in action Sunday, November 16 as they head to Bristol, Tenn. for the King Open.

The Braves would take the first four bouts following forfeit wins at 125 and 149 pounds, with a Sam Hutchison tech. fall win at 133 pounds and a De'Shawn Barbee decision win at 141 pounds in between to take a quick 20-0 lead. Shorter would win the next three bouts to make it 20-10, but Jose Zambrano followed with a pin at 184 pounds, while Jackson Buck put the match away with a tech. fall in the 197-pound bout. 


UNCP VS. #2 LANDER (L, 27-12)

Cooper Davis got the Braves on the board first with a dominate tech. fall win at 125 pounds, before eighth-ranked Logan Robinson secured a decision win over fourth-ranked James Joplin in the 133-pound bout to stretch the early lead to 8-0. Lander would take the next two bouts to cut the lead to 8-7, before 14th-ranked 157 pounder Keegan Roberson racked up a major decision over 12th-ranked Noah Roulo to make it 12-7. Lander would rattle off five-straight victories to secure the 27-12 win.
