Wrestling Sweeps Quad Meet At Yellow Jacket Duals

BEREA, OHIO. – UNC Pembroke won 22 of its 30 bouts on the way to a three-match sweep over Case Western Reserve, Wilmington College, and host Baldwin Wallace at the Yellow Jacket Duals on Friday evening at the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

125-pounder Cooper Davis and 149-pounder Avery Buonocore each turned in perfect 3-0 days on the mat, combining to log six bonus-point wins. 13th-ranked 157-pounder Keegan Roberson and 197-pounder Jackson Buck also went unblemished, each finishing 2-0 with a combined four bonus-point victories. 133-pounder Sam Hutchison and heavyweight Daniel Karmanov would also log two victories apiece.

The Black & Gold will be back in action December 13-14 for the prestigious 46th Midwest Classic, hosted by UIndy at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis.


UNCP vs. CASE WESTERN RESERVE (W, 35-12)

Cooper Davis picked up the first of his three wins with a tech. fall at 125 pounds to give the Braves the early lead. Case Western countered with wins at 133 and 141 to take a 9-5 lead. 149-pounder Avery Buonocore started a string of three-straight UNCP bonus-point wins with a tech. fall, while No. 13 Keegan Roberson followed with a major decision at 157 pounds, and No. 12 Caleb Grau picking up a first-period pin at 165 to give the Braves a 20-9 lead. Case Western would take the 174-pound bout, but Jose Zambrano Canuto (184 pounds), Jackson Buck (197), and Daniel Karmanov (285) would each take bonus-point wins to give the Braves the 35-12 win.
 

UNCP vs. WILMINGTON COLLEGE (W, 49-5)

Cooper Davis struck for a lightning-quick pin in just 14 seconds in the 125-pound bout, while Sam Hutchison (133), Don Edwards (141), and Avery Buonocore (149) each logged bonus-point wins to stretch the UNCP lead to 22-0. Wilmington College took the 157-pound bout, but Nick Williams (165), Mason Diemert (184), and Tkaii Gaither (197) answered with bonus-point wins to close out the dual. UNC Pembroke earned forfeit wins at 174 and 285 pounds.


UNCP at BALDWIN WALLACE (W, 28-15)

125-pounder Cooper Davis stayed hot with a tech. fall win, while Sam Hutchison followed with a pin at 133 pounds to give the Black & Gold a quick 11-0 lead. After Baldwin Wallace won the 141-pound bout, Avery Buonocore tallied his third win of the day with a first-period pin at 149 pounds and No. 13 Keegan Roberson added a tech. fall at 157 to make it 22-4. Baldwin Wallace answered with wins at 165 and 174 pounds to cut its deficit to 22-12, but Quintez Shipman (184) and Jackson Buck (197) followed with victories to put the match away.
