Wrestling Sends Five To All-Conference Team

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team continued an annual tradition Friday afternoon as five Braves – Oggie Atwood (1st Team), Jake Piccirilli (1st), Keegan Roberson (2nd), Avery Buonocore (3rd), and Shylik Scriven (3rd) – were decorated with All-Conference Carolinas honors.

The announcement marks the sixth-straight year that the Black & Gold has had three or more wrestlers decorated with all-conference nods. It is the third career all-conference honor for Piccirilli, as well as the second time Roberson and Scriven have earned the selection, while Atwood and Buonocore each picked up their first all-conference laurels.
 
A product of Kittanning, Pa. and 285 pounder, Atwood closed out the regular season with a 16-5 record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in Conference Carolinas duals. The graduate student has racked up two major decisions, five tech. falls, and a pin. Atwood also took champion honors at the PJ Smith Pembroke Classic.

A native of Woodstock, Ga., Piccirilli has reeled of a 16-2 record this season, including a perfect 6-0 mark in Conference Carolinas action. The senior is currently ranked No. 5 in the country at 149 pounds, and has tallied three major decisions, eight tech. falls, and two pins, while also bringing home champion honors at the PJ Smith Pembroke Classic.

A product of Chicago, Ill., Roberson currently sits at No. 3 in the country in the 157-pound division, and has an unblemished 9-0 record, including 6-0 in Conference Carolinas duals. The redshirt-sophomore has tallied a tech. fall and four pins, and also owns a head-to-head win over the Conference Carolinas 1st-Team selection. 

A native of Wilmington and 141 pounder, Buonocore finished the regular season with a 15-9 record, with a 3-3 mark in Conference Carolinas action. The sophomore has logged two major decisions, four tech. falls, and two pins, while bringing home champion honors at the PJ Smith Pembroke Classic and tallying three wins at the prestigious Midwest Classic.
 
Scriven, a Fuquay-Varina product and 184 pounder, has logged an 8-5 record this season, including a 2-1 tally in Conference Carolinas duals. The graduate student has logged two major decisions and a tech. fall.
