Women’s Basketball Clinches Division, Downs Mount Olive

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team shot 48.3 percent from the field on Wednesday and scored 21 points from turnovers to defeat Mount Olive 67-39 on Wednesday for the regular season finale at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The Braves (21-7, 15-5 CC) clinched a share of the Conference Carolinas East Division title and are now a perfect 19-0 when playing Mount Olive in Pembroke. The Trojans (3-22, 2-18 CC) have now lost their last nine games and finish the season with a 1-12 record when playing on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Mount Olive took its largest lead of the contest, 9-4, following a jumper from Jada Priebe with 5:43 on the clock in the opening period. UNC Pembroke went on a 10-3 run capped off with a three from Natalie Evington to lead 13-12 at the 3:16 mark as both teams would go scoreless over the next two minutes. The Trojans took their last lead of the game, 14-13 with a jumper from Jerin Truesdale with under a minute on the clock, but Zaria Clark canned a jumper to give the Braves a 15-14 lead after the first quarter. 
2ND QUARTER
Stella Mollica's three started the Braves on a 9-2 surge polished off with a jumper from Hannah Russell to push the UNCP lead out to 24-16 with 5:45 remaining in the half. Kayana Cloud's jumper stopped the run and cut Mount Olive's deficit back to 24-18, but the Braves closed out the quarter on a 7-2 run to hold a 31-20 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
3RD QUARTER
UNCP started the half on an 11-0 run that stretched to the 4:22 mark with a layup from Tianna Spann to give the Braves a 42-20 advantage. The Trojans worked their deficit back to 44-25 with a layup from Jerin Truesdale, but an old-fashioned three-point play from Natalie Evington padded the Black & Gold's lead, 47-25 with 1:05 left in the frame. Anna Miller knocked down a triple on the next possession for Mount Olive, but Stella Mollica ended period with a jumper to give UNCP a 49-28 lead heading into the final stanza. 
4TH QUARTER
Natalie Evington knocked down a three just 10 seconds into the period to give the hosts a 52-28 lead, but a 6-2 surge from UMO cut the Trojans deficit back to 54-34 with 7:41 remaining in regulation. A 3-pointer from Kelci Adams sparked an 11-1 run to give UNC Pembroke its largest lead of the night, 67-37, after a three from Natalie Evington with 1:28 left in the game. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Natalie Evington scored a game-high 15 points on a 4-for-8 clip from the perimeter. The sophomore grabbed three rebounds in 20 minutes of work.
+ Hannah Russell turned in a 14-point showing and was 7-for-13 from the floor. The senior grabbed six rebounds, had two steals and one assist.
+ Stella Mollica chipped in a dozen points after shooting 5-for-9 from the floor. The senior dished out six assists, had three rebounds and one steal. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke clinched a share of the Conference Carolinas East Division title with Wednesday's victory. 
+ The Braves shot 48.3 percent from the field and held Mount Olive to 29.6 percent shooting. 
+ Senior Stella Mollica broke Hall of Fame members Ginnell Curtis and Lisa Mason's single season assists school record on Wednesday and has 159 assists on the season. 
+ UNCP picked up 21 points from 18 UMO turnovers. 

UP NEXT
The Braves will play the winner of Converse and Barton on Monday at 5 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court for the second round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
