WILSON - The UNC Pembroke softball team recorded 23 hits and had five home runs on the day as the Braves split a conference doubleheader with Barton on Saturday at Jeffries Field.
UNCP capitalized on five Barton errors in the opening game and scored four runs in the top of the 7th inning to defeat the Bulldogs 8-4.
The Braves held a 9-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning of game two, but a six-run fourth inning for Barton and four total UNCP errors help the Bulldogs to a 12-11 victory for the split of the series.

Kaitlynn Hunt got the inning started with a lead off double to the left center field gap, but Samantha Allred lit up the scoreboard with a two-run blast over the center field fence.

Madison Mercer drew a walk, stole second, and would score on an error from UNCP. Mary Lindsey Harris knocked a single to the outfield gap to score a Bulldog runner and give Barton a 3-2 lead.

UNC Pembroke loaded the bases after Alona Hanna and Samantha Allred both drew walks and Katie Hogue was hit by a pitch. Tiara Stueck smacked a single down the right field line that scored a pair of runners, and would score Hogue on an ill-timed throwing error. The Braves would plate an insurance run on another throwing error from Barton. |

Madison Mercer smacked a single up the middle to drive in a pair of runners, followed by an RBI single to right field from Ali Bunch. Gracelyn Massey drove in two more runners with a double to the outfield gap followed by a fielding error that scored the final run of the inning as Barton trailed 9-8.
