Women's Basketball Drop Conference Contest At Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. Francis Marion shot 47.5 percent from the field and scored 46 points in the paint to highlight a 75-54 victory over the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team on Wednesday evening inside the Smith University Center.

The Braves (3-9, 3-2 CC) have now lost the last 11 contests with Francis Marion when playing in Florence, S.C. The victory for the Patriots (7-6, 4-1 CC) snapped a three game skid and improve to 5-1 when playing at home this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
The game started with Francis Marion establishing an early lead as Terriana Gray scored a layup just 12 seconds into the game. The Patriots maintained their momentum with Mariana Moody contributing a jumper at 9:18, and Uriah Jennings adding a fast-break layup at 8:51, pushing the score to 6-0. The Braves responded with Tiana Spann scoring off an offensive rebound at 8:29. Natalie Evington sparked a comeback attempt with two 3-pointers, narrowing the gap to 12-10 with 2:02 left in the quarter. However, Jasmine Grant's late free throw solidified a 17-10 lead for Francis Marion at the end of the first quarter.
2ND QUARTER
Francis Marion increased their lead over the Braves in the second quarter, concluding the period with a 38-30 advantage. Kiara Croskey had a strong showing, contributing with multiple jumpers and free throws. Gray also added to the home team's scoring with a key layup and free throws, helping to maintain their momentum. On the visitor's side, Grace Ikenegbu and Spann made notable contributions, with Spann closing the quarter scoring two free throws after being fouled as time expired.
3RD QUARTER
Francis Marion extended their lead in the third quarter with an effective performance in the paint. Jennings contributed significantly, scoring a layup at 9:29 and completing a three-point play at 7:28. UNC Pembroke's Natalie Evington briefly closed the gap with a 3-pointer at 6:29, assisted by Camille Kerridge. However, Croskey's layup at 4:07 and Grant's late layup at 1:17 kept the home team in control. The period concluded with Croskey adding two free throws, solidifying a 55-41 lead for the Patriots.
4TH QUARTER
In the final quarter, the Patriots outscored the Braves 20-13. Croskey contributed significantly for Francis Marion, starting with a fastbreak layup and converting a three-point play at 9:14 to widen their lead. Later, Jordan Mintz hit a 3-pointer at 7:19, assisted by Jennings, pushing the score to 63-42. Anastasia Sinclair attempted to close the gap for the Braves with a fast-break layup at 5:11, but Francis Marion maintained control. Croskey and Gray added crucial free throws in the final minutes to secure a 75-54 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Natalie Evington finished with a team-best 14 points on a 4-for-7 shooting clip from the perimeter. Evington pulled down three rebounds and had one steal in 19 minutes of action.
+ Keziyah Sanders added 10 points and dished out seven assists in 32 minutes of action. The newcomer added three rebounds and one steal.
+ Shaymiah Bailey turned in nine points and pulled down three rebounds.
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 30.2 percent from the field while Francis Marion shot 47.5 percent from the floor. 
+ The Patriots outscored the Braves 46-20 with points in the paint. 
+ UNCP committed 20 turnovers while allowed FMU to score 23 points.
