Softball Downs Johnson C. Smith, Virginia Union On Saturday

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke softball team recorded eight nits and scored a pair of runs in three different innings to help fuel a 7-2 victory over Johnson C. Smith on Saturday afternoon. 

Virginia Union put up seven runs in the top of the third inning and then scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but a six run seventh inning from the Braves to go along with six errors from Virginia Union fueled a 15-14 victory over the Panthers.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 2 Chloe Locklear reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Makayla Etling drew a walk and then stole second, but a single to center field from Maddie Gerovac scored both Locklear and Etling to give UNCP a 2-0 lead. 
BOT 6 The Braves put runners on first and second after a single to left field from Maggie Cunningham and a bunt single from Alona Hanna. Chloe Locklear cleared the bases with a double to left field to put the Braves out in front 7-0. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 3 Virginia Union loaded the bases after a pair of walk and Danasia Sturdivan was hit by a pitch. Janiya Brown drew a walk to score a run followed by an ill-timed wild pitch to bring home another runner. Virginia Union would score six runs on just three hits in the inning to hold a 9-4 lead. 
BOT 7 Makalya Etling started the inning with a leadoff triple and scored on a single up the middle from Maggie Cunningham. The Braves put runners on first and second after an single through the left side from Chloe Locklear, and a fielding error would score Cunningham. Alex Serbio smacked a double to left field to drive in pair of runs, and would score on another throwing error for the winning run.
