Softball Splits Twinbill With Georgia College

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball split a non-conference doubleheader with Georgia College on Saturday afternoon at Willoughby Field. The Braves used a late run to take the opening game 1-0, but the Bobcats took the back half of the doubleheader with a 7-3 victory. 

The Black & Gold recorded just two hits and drew four walks, two of which were in the bottom of the seventh inning to highlight game one. The Braves stranded nine runners in game two while logging just two hits, but the Bobcats scored runs in four different innings for the split.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 7 UNC Pembroke loaded the bases with a Maggie Cunningham walk, Cayden Thomas was hit by a pitch and Alex Serbio drew a walk. Emma Wrenn hit a ball to second, but Cunningham was able to beat the throw home for the victory.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 3 Georgia College put runners on second and third after a leadoff single from Maddie Todd followed by a double to the outfield gap from Emily Hobbs. Emily Hutchenson drove in a run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Sydney Lancaster to put the Bobcats ahead 4-1. 
BOT 7 UNC Pembroke loaded the bases with three straight walks. Alona Hanna and Chloe Locklear both drove in a run with a fielder's choice, but UNCP wasn't able to capitalize with runner's in scoring position.

The Braves will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Salisbury to face Catawba. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Whitley Field.
