Baseball Picks Up Road Win At No. 23 Wingate, Sweeps Season Series

WINGATE – UNC Pembroke jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, and then rode its bullpen to a 10-5 win over No. 23 Wingate in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Ron Christopher Stadium.

Daniel Stephens, Landon Lucas, Boone Herman, and JD Scarbrough each drove in two runs apiece, with Stephens and Lucas adding home runs and Scarbrough a triple.

Jarred Lindholm, Taylor Batten, Ryan Wells, and Lucas combined to shut out the Bulldogs over the final 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits. 

The Braves (26-11) improved to 56-37 all-time against the Bulldogs (28-11), and have now won 33 of the last 40 matchups against Wingate.

The Black & Gold will be back in action Friday as they welcome No. 4 North Greenville to town for a Conference Carolinas series, as well as Alumni Weekend. First pitch Friday is set for 6 p.m.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 The Braves struck first as Hayden Davis worked a walk and came on a Landon Lucas bomb to make it 2-0.
TOP 2 UNCP stretched the lead as JD Scarbrough laced a two-run triple, followed by a Daniel Stephens homer to make it 6-0. Boone Herman capped off the inning with a two-RBI single to make it 8-0.
TOP 7 Herman walked and eventually came home to score on Ashton Donathan's RBI single to close out the scoring and make it 10-5.
