Baseball's Season Ends In Loss To No. 2 Seed Francis Marion

GASTONIA – No. 5 seed UNC Pembroke outhit No. 2 seed Francis Marion but couldn't overcome a 7-0 deficit and saw its season come to a close at the hands of the Patriots for the second-straight season with a 7-3 loss Saturday at Sims Legion Park.

Daniel Stephens had a game-high three hits, including a pair of doubles. Ashton Donathan connected for a two-run homer as part of a 1-4 day at the plate.

The Braves (33-18) fell to 51-80-1 in the all-time series against the Patriots (42-11), and have now lost four of the last five matchups with Francis Marion.

TOP 3 Francis Marion got on the board first as Zander Buchan walked and eventually came home on a wild pitch, while Charlie Bussey III lifted a two-run shot over the LF wall to make it 3-0. Will Dorrell's sac fly capped off the scoring to stretch the FMU lead to 4-0.
TOP 5 The Patriots would tack on two more from RBI singles from Ethan McAnally and Riley Orr, while Logan Davis scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.
BOT 7 The Braves got on the board as Boone Herman worked a leadoff walk and Ashton Donathan followed with a two-run blast to make it 7-2. Daniel Stephens doubled and would come on a Jackson Crute RBI fielder's choice to trim the deficit to 7-3.
