PEMBROKE – Hard work in both competition and the classroom paid off for two UNC Pembroke student-athletes who were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large Team, the organization announced.
 
Wrestling's Nick Williams and Jose Zambrano Canuto each secured a spot on the distinguished squad for the first time in their careers.
 
Williams carries a 3.72 cumulative GPA as a Geo-Environmental Studies major, while Zambrano Canuto graduated with a 3.668 GPA and a degree in Criminal Justice. The pair becomes just the fifth and sixth wrestlers in program history to earn the honor. 
 
To be nominated, student-athletes must be in the lineup for at least 75 percent of team scoring events (open tournaments, duals) or compete in their weight class at a conference championship meet, while posting at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.
