UNCP Athletics Announces 47th Hall Of Fame Class

PEMBROKE – Eight student-athletes will officially be inducted into the UNC Pembroke Athletics Hall of Fame as part of Homecoming Week in late October, athletics department officials announced Monday afternoon. 

"Yet another amazing class celebrating the tremendous history of Braves Athletics," said former Director of Athletics Dick Christy. "Tremendously difficult work by the committee with so many worthy individuals."

Men's basketball's Shahmel Brackett, two-sport athlete Andrea Cox, three-time all-conference honoree Max "Don" Dishen, all-American and region track athlete of the year Maurice Eubanks, baseball all-American Josh Haley, Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Year Livia Mahaffie, relay all-American James Brown, and Olympic Gold Medalist Tracey Williams-Johnson, will comprise UNCP's 47th Athletics Hall of Fame Class. 

The 2026 Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on October 23 in the University Center Annex. Ticket information will be announced to the general public at a later date. 

A three-time All-Peach Belt Conference basketball honoree, Brackett played in 109 games for the Black & Gold logging 107 starts. During his career, he averaged 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 28.6 minutes per game. Brackett ranks sixth on the program's all-time leading scoring list recording 1,623 points in his career. He was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year following his first season with the Braves, was named to the All-PBC Tournament team and NABC All-District team as a junior, and was a four-time NCCSIA All-State selection during his career. 

A two-sport athlete for the Braves, Cox was a member of the women's basketball and volleyball teams at UNC Pembroke. Cox earned 1st team All-Peach Belt Conference honors for women's basketball following the 1995-96 season and finished her career tallying over 600 rebounds. She ranks 17th on the programs 1,000-point club. Cox also earned All-Peach Belt honors for volleyball in 1995 and was named to the All-PBC Tournament team during that season as well. 

A three-time men's soccer team defensive MVP, Dishen played three seasons for the Braves after transferring to Pembroke State from the University of Alabama-Birmingham after his freshman season. Dishen earned All-Carolinas Conference honors all-three seasons, and was named the team captain for the 1982 and 1983 seasons. He also was named to the NAIA-District 26 team in 1981 and 1982. Dishen competed on the track & field team for the Black & Gold as well and was named All-Carolinas Conference in javelin in 1983. 

A five-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region honoree, Eubanks earned all-region honors in the 100, 200 and 400-meter Dash events, as well as 4x100 and 4x400-meter Relay teams. In 2011, Eubanks earned all-American honors in both the 100 and 200-meter Dash events. He was also named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year during 2011. He holds the school record for the indoor 55-meter Dash. 

A career .352 hitter, Haley was an integral of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Tournament baseball team that set the school record for most wins with 44. A 2012 College Sport Communicators Academic All-American, Haley holds the school records for most runs score (210), and stolen bases (100). He ranks second in program history with 269 hits and 91 extra base hits. Haley earned all-region honors from three organizations and was named to the PBC All-Tournament Team in 2011.

A four-time Peach Belt Conference cross country Runner of the Week, Mahaffie was named the Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Year following the 2011 season. She earned all-Peach Belt Conference honors three seasons and was a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic recipient. Mahaffie won the Peach Belt Conference Championship during her senior season in 2012 and was also named USTFCCCA all-region during that year as well. She holds the 16th and 25th fastest times for the cross country program in the 6K and owns the 23rd fastest 5K time. 

A member of the track & field programs, Brown etched his name in the record books earning a pair of all-American nods. Brown ran a leg on the 400m Relay Team during the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons to earned NAIA all-American honors during both seasons. 

A two-sport athlete, Williams-Johnson earned all-state honors for the softball team and was awarded the Hustle and Coaches Award for women's basketball. Williams-Johnson served as the Assistant Director of Women's Programs for USA Basketball from 1993-97 and earned an Olympic Gold Medal with the staff in 1996. She joined the coaching staff at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 and spent 19 seasons with the Tar Heels. She was an integral part of 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, four ACC Tournament titles and two Final Four appearances in 2006 and 2007. 

Members of the 2026 Athletics Hall of Fame committee include Hall of Fame members David Lewis (cross country/track & field) and Dr. Barbara Green McWhite (basketball), Braves Club members Don Metzger, and Lenore Taylor, and Dr. Dena Breece, department chair of Accounting, Finance, Information Technology Management.
