The Process of a Jump Shot
Questions to ask while viewing:
What happens to the ball when the players shoot the basketball?
Does a smaller player start running faster than a larger player? Why?
What happens to a player when they  bump into another player?
What would happen if they use a bowling ball instead of a basketball? Tennis ball?

1.P.1 Understand how forces (pushes or pulls) affect the motion of an object. 
Clarifying Objective
1.P.1.1 Explain the importance of a push or pull to changing the motion of an object.
Students will understand that…
  • A force is a push or pull (usually on an object).
  • Forces can cause objects to start moving, stop moving, or change direction.
  • Mass and force affect motion.
  • Changes in speed or direction of motion are caused by forces.
  • Gravity is the earth’s pull on things. Things on or near the earth are pulled toward it by the earth's gravity.
Essential Questions
  • How can pushing and pulling change the motion of objects?
  • How do objects move (spinning, bouncing, rolling)
Students will know...
  • How to demonstrate the types of force using touch.
  • How to change the speed and direction of an object in motion.
  • How to demonstrate  how to use force to start, stop, and keep an object in motion.
Assessment Task
  • If a ball is rolling towards a player and they put their hand out, the ball hits the player’s hand, what will happen to the ball?
  • During the basketball game, what is an example of a push and a pull?
  • If a player is running down the court and runs towards the goal, what happens when they bump into another player?
