Prepped at South Caldwell High School for coach Jeff Parham … Compiled a 5-0 mark on the mound as a prep senior and helped lead Spartans to a conference regular season and tournament championship, as well as a deep run in the state playoffs … Also helped lead South Caldwell to the same accomplishments during his junior season … Earned two consecutive most talented runner laurels as a member of the cross country team for the Spartans … Also participated in indoor track at South Caldwell.

The son of Tracy and Jerry Bentley was born on Oct. 8, 1990 … Has two older brothers, Josh and Travis, and one older sister, Barbara … Josh is a former baseball player at UNCP, while Travis is a former baseball player for Tusculum … Maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at South Caldwell High School and graduated in the top 30 percent of his 334-member senior class … A history major at UNCP.
