A seasoned veteran with previous experience as both a player and coach in the state of North Carolina, Cliff Allred begins his third season with the UNC Pembroke baseball program in 2023 as an assistant coach for the Braves.

Allred comes to Pembroke after serving the last five seasons at his alma mater, St. Andrews, where he took on duties as both an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Knights. Following an outstanding playing career in Laurinburg, he dove into the coaching world at West Craven High School, and then was a part of the staff at Pfeiffer from 2008-12. Along the way, he successfully completed gigs as both an associate scout with Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies, as well as assistant coach roles with the Coastal Plains League’s Gastonia Grizzlies and Forest City Owls.

A three-year captain at St. Andrews from 2003-07, Allred played in 178 games and registered a .278 (161-for-580) career batting average to go along with 67 extra-base hits (32 HR), 140 RBI and 94 runs scored. His playing career included a sophomore campaign that saw him hit .301 with eight home runs and 39 RBI, as well as a Conference Carolinas Player of the Week laurel.

A native of Franklinville, Allred earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from St. Andrews in 2007.
