Collins Cuthrell Headshot

Collins Cuthrell

Having gained valuable experience as a standout player at two NCAA Division II institutions over his illustrious collegiate career, Collins Cuthrell begins his sixth season on the UNC Pembroke coaching staff in 2020-21 as an assistant coach for the Braves.

Cuthrell earned Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year honors in his lone season as a student-athlete with the Black & Gold in 2015. The award was well-deserved as the Rocky Mount native captured the league’s Triple Crown after hitting .438 (91-for-208) with a school record 25 home runs and 75 RBI. Cuthrell compiled a .538 on-base and .904 slugging percentage on the way to raking in all-America honors from three different organizations as well, including a first team nod from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

His redshirt senior campaign also saw him named as a semifinalist for the Tino Martinez Award which is given annually to the top player in NCAA Division II Baseball. He was also the lone NCAA Division II representative on the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award which is presented annually to the top amateur player across all levels of baseball in the United States.

Prior to venturing to Pembroke, Cuthrell was a three-year starter (2012-14) at Barton where he compiled a .291 (135-for-464) career batting clip with 46 extra-base hits (15 HR), 66 RBI and 75 runs scored. He earned All-Conference Carolinas honors following both his sophomore and junior seasons, and was a preseason all-America selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) in 2013. He received a medical redshirt following his senior season at Barton after seeing his final campaign with the Bulldogs cut short due to an injury.

Cuthrell earned his bachelor’s degree in business and sport management from Barton in 2014, and was hooded with his master’s degree in sports administration from UNCP in 2016. Cuthrell and his wife, Andrea, were married in December 2019. Andrea joined UNCP as the assistant director of the Braves Club in March 2020.
