An accomplished student-athlete at both the NCAA Division I and II levels, Deshonn Brown begins his second year as an assistant coach with the UNC Pembroke track & field squads in 2023-24.
Â
Brown comes to Pembroke following a successful two-year coaching stint at Minnesota State where he helped lead the Mavericks women’s team to a runner-up finish at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, as well as a sweep of the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. While in Mankato, he was an integral part of a coaching staff that produced five all-Americans in jumping events, including the nation’s top-ranked men’s high jumper.
Â
An all-conference standout in multi-events for Northern State from 2015-17, Brown became NSU’s first men’s all-American in a decade after he raked in second team honors with an 11th-place finish in the high jump at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. He closed out his collegiate career at South Dakota where he registered 40 top-10 finishes, while also picking up a trio of all-conference nods.
Â
A native of Prior Lake, Minn., Brown earned his bachelor’s degree in sports marketing from South Dakota in 2019.
