Prepped at Harnett Central High School for Coach Bill Wyrick and Sam Bell … Four-year letterman in wrestling, three-year letterman in football and track and field and a two-year letterman in indoor track and field … As a senior, he posted personal-bests in the shot put (56’3”), discus (154’9”) and the indoor shot put (48’) … Garnered all-state and all-conference accolades for two consecutive years … Finished four in the indoor and outdoor shot put his junior and senior years … Was ranked 25th national as a senior and finished eighth at the New Balance Nationals and third at the Junior Olympic Nationals as a senior … Placed 10th at the Junior Olympics Nationals during his junior year … Awarded Defensive MVP and all-conference for football as well as a four-time all-conference, two-time MVP and all-region in wrestling … Ran for the Sandhills Track Club under Coach Vincent Clark and competed at the Junior Olympics … Finished 16th and third overall his junior and senior years, respectively, and registered a personal best in the shot put (58’5”), discus (162’) and javelin (130’).
