An experienced athletic trainer who has already garnered valuable experience at a fellow Peach Belt Conference institution, Kathryn Fonseca joined the UNC Pembroke athletics department in August 2019 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. Fonseca has been charged with the day-to-day athletic training responsibilities for both the cross country and track & field programs.
 
Fonseca came to Pembroke from Dahlonega, Ga., where she raked in a bevy of experience while completing her undergraduate coursework at North Georgia. Fonseca dove into her athletic training clinicals at Chestatee High School in August 2017, and later completed stints at both North Hall High School and Flowery Branch High School. She also successfully completed a four-month assignment with UNG’s softball program as well.
 
 The Snellville, Ga., native also logged time as a volunteer at several events, including UNG Recreational Sports’ Strongman and Weightlifting competitions, as well as at the 2018 King of the Mountain High School Wrestling Tournament in Young Harris, Ga. While in Pembroke, she has also served a valuable role at the Tri-Warriors Youth Triathlon.
 
Fonseca earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from North Georgia in 2019. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in sports administration at UNCP.
