Neil Smith embarks on his sixth year as a volunteer assistant with the UNC Pembroke softball team for the 2016-17 athletic year.
Smith has been volunteering with the Braves since 2012 and is responsible for assisting the head coach with administrative and coaching assignments. Smith’s duties also include maintaining the field and making sure it is game ready.
He is also the owner of Braveheart Medical Transport, Inc., a medical transportation company based out of Laurinburg. Smith started the company in 1996 after recognizing a need for non-emergent medical transportation. His day-to-day operations include billing, collections and personnel management. Smith gained additional experience after a two year stint as an EMT-Intermediate for Scotland County EMS. During his time at Scotland County EMS, Smith was a medic on ambulances responding to emergency 911 calls for medical assistance. Additionally, he was charged with the responsibility of up keep and maintenance for equipment and ambulances.
Smith, a certified EMT-Intermediate, earned a bachelor of science in recreation management from Pembroke State University in 1995.Â
