After turning in an illustrious career as a student-athlete for the UNC Pembroke wrestling team from 2015-20, Tyler Makosy begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Braves in 2021-22.

A three-time qualifier for the NCAA Division II Championships, Makosy compiled a 104-57 (.646) in four seasons on the mat for the Black & Gold, including a senior campaign that watched him register a career-best 33 victories at both the 149- and 157-pound weight classes. A two-time all-conference selection, Makosy made 15 career trips to the podium, including event titles at both the 2019 NCAA Midwest Super Regional and the 2020 Mountain East Conference Championships. Of his 104 career victories – a total that ranks in a tie for 18th on the program’s all-time wins list – 40 of them came with bonus points.

A four-time NWCA Academic All-American and four-time selection to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll, Makosy served two terms as president of UNCP’s chapter of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Ijamsville, Md., native earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from UNCP in 2019, and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in sports administration.
