AS A FRESHMAN (2012-13): Competed in five tournaments, but did not see action in dual meet competition … Compiled a 2-10 (.200) record, including a 1-1 mark against NCAA Division II competition … Registered first collegiate victory with a first period pin of Lake Erie’s Mike November in an exhibition match at the Newberry Duals.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Cherryville High School for coach Matt Powers … Registered a 19-2 (.905) clip as a prep senior en route to second consecutive team most valuable player honors … Turned in a 24-11 (.686) record as a junior and made an appearance in the state tournament … Was also a standout

PERSONAL: The son of Sherrie and Marty Hayes was born on April 24, 1994 … Has an older brother, Evon … Maintained a 3.75 cumulative grade point average at Cherryville High School and graduated in the top 14 percent of his 132-member senior class … Enrolled in pre-major studies at UNCP.
