CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Visiting UNCP limited Charleston (W.Va.) to just 51 yards of total offense in the first half and rolled up more than 500 yards of total offense itself for the fifth time this season as the Braves recorded a banner day on both sides of the ball in a 52-14 rout of the Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon at UC Stadium.

Senior running back Travis Daniels rushed for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns – his seventh-straight 100-yard rushing day of the season – to cross the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second time in the last three seasons. With the performance, he also eclipsed his own school record and now has 1,078 yards rushing this season. Sophomore quarterback Luke Charles nearly touched the 300-passing yard plateau for the third-straight week, but finished the outing with 297 yards and a pair of scores on 22-of-26 passing. Charles has now thrown for a school record 2,004 yards this season on 138-of-225 passing. He is the first 2,000-yard passer in the history of the UNCP football program.

Donald Britt hauled in four passes for a career-best 108 yards and a score, while sophomore Ben Decelle tallied his second touchdown reception of the season - a 10-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter. Tight end Cody Harrington registered career-bests in both receptions (5) and receiving yards (73) as well. Running backs Damonte Terry (46) and Elliott Powell (49) each turned in nearly 50 yards on the ground as well.

The victory gave the Braves (5-2) consecutive wins for the first time in more than a month and helped the Black & Gold match its win total from last season as well. Charleston (1-6), which registered more than 700 yards of total offense in capturing its first victory of the season last week at conference-rival Seton Hill, was limited to just 84 passing yards on the day.

Redshirt freshman Dominique Bridges tallied six tackles, intercepted two passes and broke up another to pace the efforts for the UNCP defense, while true freshman Elijah Williams recorded his first career interception as well. Freshman L.J. Stroman paced the defense with eight tackles, while newcomer Darcus Elliott registered six tackles and a forced fumble.

UNCP scored on nine of its 11 possessions on the day and scored 50 or more points for the second-straight week – the first time that has been accomplished in the 4+-year history of the program in Pembroke. Saturday's matchup was the first gridiron meeting between the two schools.

"I am very excited about our performance today," said UNCP head coach Pete Shinnick. "We played a complete game today and it was good to see our guys accomplish that in week seven. We still have some things that we can work on and improve, but I am very proud of how we played today."

UNCP scored on each of its first three possessions of the contest and out-gained Charleston 207-25 in the first quarter alone. Terry capped an 8-play, 67-yard scoring drive on UNCP's opening possession with a 2-yard plunge, and Charles engineered a 4-play, 65-yard drive minutes later that was capped on a 1-yard quarterback sneak that padded the visitor lead out to 13-0. Taylor Baskett's 24-yard field goal just ticks into the second period would culminate a 14-play, 66-yard drive that gave UNCP a 16-0 advantage.

The Braves would score in a more unconventional matter less than two minutes later when Williams recorded his first career interception and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Bridges' first interception of the game on the ensuing possession by the Golden Eagles would set up a 10-play, 85-yard scoring drive that was capped by a 26-yard pass from Charles to Donald Britt on a 4th-and-3 situation for the Braves.

The Braves used Bridges' second interception of the contest to spark a 5-play, 32-yard scoring drive midway through the third quarter that gave the visitors a 35-0 lead, but Charleston finally answered two plays later when Jordan scampered 88 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit back to 35-7. However, Michael Isbell returned the following kickoff 68 yards down to the UC 27-yard line and, four plays later, Daniels would extend the lead back out to 35 points on a 2-yard plunge off the left side. The three touchdowns in the third quarter were scored over a span of 2:24.

Ben Decelle hauled in his first career touchdown pass with just less than 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter to extend the visitors' lead out to an insurmountable 49-7 margin, but Baskett put the final nail in the coffin nearly nine minutes later on a career-long 55-yard field goal. The Golden Eagles would add the final points of the day on a 35-yard touchdown run by Marquis White with 53 seconds left to play.

UNCP will continue a three-game road trip on Saturday when the squad packs up their show and heads to Jefferson City, Tenn., for a 1 p.m. contest against Carson-Newman (3-4). Carson-Newman dropped a tough 34-27 decision at North Greenville on Saturday.
