AIKEN, S.C. – The UNCP volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to host Peach Belt Conference rival USC Aiken on Friday evening in the Convocation Center as the Pacers registered 44 kills en route to the shutout victory with scores of 25-15, 26-24 and 25-23.
The Pacers' (13-13, 5-5 PBC) defense held the Lady Braves (11-15, 3-7) to a .069 hitting percentage and 47 percent sideout percentage. Senior Rebecca Morgan led the Black and Gold with 10 kills, while Tiara Anderson tallied eight.
Throughout the three games, there were 15 tied scores and eight lead changes as USC Aiken controlled game one from the start. UNCP pushed game two into extra points before posting a 4-0 run to bring the score of game three to 24-23. Leah Rodgers slammed down the final kill for the Pacers to close out the match.
Setter Ashlyn Rebok totaled 28 assists, while libero Marissa Baker had a team-best 17 digs. The Lady Braves finished with two solo blocks and four block assists compared to the Pacers' three solo blocks and eight block assists.
The Pacers were led by Hannah Tierney with 10 kills, while Ashley Farwell and Sheila Walsh dished out 18 and 17 assists, respectively. Three Pacers tallied double-digit digs as the team held a 57 percent sideout percentage.
The Lady Braves will match up against PBC opponent Lander (13-13, 3-7) in Greenwood, S.C., on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Horne Arena for the last road game of the season.
