PEMBROKE – With seven seconds remaining in double overtime, Coker's Akeem Prendes scored the game-winning goal to push the Cobras past UNCP, 2-1, on Friday evening at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke.

Transfer Sam Miles used a diving header off the corner kick from Braxton Perkins with less than three minutes left in the first half for his conference-leading ninth goal that put the Braves (7-3-1) up 1-0 at halftime. The first half was a strategic half with both teams using short, controlled passes to work the ball up the field. UNCP and Coker (10-1-0) each registered six shots with two on goal.

An opportunity came in the 62nd minute for the Cobras to score as Rommel Fondin shot from the center of the box, but goalkeeper Ryan Hanson captured the save to keep the Braves ahead by one, until Steven Scrivens scored in the 66th minute from inside the box to tie up the game.

After a faster paced second half, the teams entered into overtime where Prendes headed the ball from the right side of the goal off the corner kick.

UNCP was out-shot 18-12 by the Cobras. Miles and Tomter each tallied three shots, while Hanson posted two saves. Coker netminder James Sweeney grabbed two saves while Eric Carlos Recinos led the team with five shots. 

"The guys played well and with heart," said UNCP head coach Phil Hindson. "That is the best team we have played this year and our guys did outstanding."

The Braves will hit the road for a five-game stretch away from home on Monday as the Black and Gold travel to Wilson to match up against region opponent Barton (7-3-0) in 7 p.m. contest.
