PEMBROKE – Coming off its home opening victory on Tuesday, Junior Courtney Bolton and senior Domonique Washington gathered their first double-doubles of the season to send the UNCP women's basketball team soaring past Morris with a 61-41 victory on Thursday in the English E. Jones Center.

Bolton shattered two career-highs with 18 points and 10 rebounds as she was 8-of-13 from the field.  Washington added 15 points and set a new career-best with 13 rebounds, while dishing out three assists and snagging five steals. 

Freshman Jazmine Kemp led the Lady Braves (3-2) with five assists and four blocks along with collecting 10 points. Newcomer Haley Magee pulled down 10 boards to contribute to UNCP outrebounding Morris (0-10) by double the amount. The Lady Braves finished the game shooting 39.3 percent from the field, and boasted holding the Lady Hornets to a mere 24.2 percent. 

Defensive action haltered the Morris' offense as it was held to 12 points entering into halftime. Bolton put the first points on the board for UNCP as the team never allowed the Lady Hornets to take the lead. At the 15:14 mark, the Black and Gold controlled its greatest lead of the game with 24 points and settled with the 20-point victory.

"It was a win, but I was disappointed in a lot of different areas including our focus, intensity and concentration because it wasn't where it needed to be," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "They did some things to put some heat on us, and we didn't respond very well, but the plus was the 62-36 rebounding and we were able to get transition layups."

Shaniqua Campbell was the only Lady Hornet in double figures with 10 points, while Whitley Teemer added eight. Leading the defense with eight rebounds was Erica Wilkerson, while Campbell collected four steals.

UNCP will be back in action on Saturday when the Black and Gold open up its Peach Belt Conference play by hosting Lander (3-2) in a 1:30 p.m. contest in the English E. Jones Center. The UNCP men will follow the conclusion of the women's game at approximately 3:30 p.m. Admission prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children 18 years of age and younger. UNCP students are admitted free with a valid Braves Card.
