Box Score 2 PEMBROKE – In a reversal of fortunes from the first game, the visiting Mars Hill Lions took a 10-1 victory from the UNCP Lady Braves softball team in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader at LRA Field in Pembroke.
The Lady Braves (14-12, 2-2 PBC) were doomed by a 15-hit output by the Lions (19-9) that pushed four runs across the board in the first and fourth innings, as well as two in the sixth. UNCP was held to one run on seven hits in the game.
The Lady Braves pushed their only run across the board in the bottom of the first on a suicide squeeze by senior Courtney Hill that scored freshman Schanique Barrett from third.
Barrett led the offense with a 3-for-3 game at the dish with one run scored. Senior Morgan Patrick finished her day with a 2-for-3 line while Taylor Cloninger and Hill each finished 1-for-2.
Junior Jamie Burwell was tabbed with the loss after allowing seven earned runs in 4-1/3 innings.
The Lady Braves will return to their conference schedule on Saturday when they travel to Columbus, Ga., for a matchup with Columbus State.
