Box Score 2 Lady Braves Fall To No. 23 Armstrong Atlantic 10-2 In Six Innings
PEMBROKE – The UNCP softball squad scored two runs in the first inning but were unable to push any more across the board in falling to No. 23 Armstrong Atlantic by an 11-2 final in six innings in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at LRA Field in Pembroke.
The Lady Braves (18-20, 6-10 PBC) recorded five hits through the first three innings, but were retired in order the rest of the way while the Lady Pirates (23-7, 8-4 PBC) scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the six innings.
UNCP recorded their first-inning runs behind a pair of singles by freshman Taylor Cloninger and senior Courtney Hill, who scored on consecutive at-bats by sophomore Holly Berry and senior Morgan Patrick.
Freshman Natalie Klemann took the loss after allowing nine runs (six earned) on nine hits in 5-1/3 innings of work.
Berry finished 2-for-3 to lead the offense with an RBI-double in the first inning.
The Lady Braves will return to action on Wednesday when they battle Francis Marion in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader in Florence, S.C.
