COLUMBUS, Ga. – The UNCP women's basketball was plagued by excessive turnovers and meager rebounding on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Braves suffered a 16-point loss against Columbus State on the road in Peach Belt Conference action.

UNCP (8-10, 5-5PBC) was led by junior Courtney Bolton with 10 points, while senior DeDe Cotten pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds. The Lady Braves shot 32.1 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the foul line. Freshman Jazmine Kemp collected eight points and grabbed six rebounds, while Victoria McVicker dished out a trio of assists.

Columbus State (11-7, 6-3) collected 26 points on the 25 UNCP turnovers, and posted five additional rebounds than the Lady Braves. Regardless of the three tied scores and two lead changes in the first half, UNCP was held to a six and a half minute scoring drought and entered halftime down by 12 points. UNCP was unable to recover in the second-half as the Lady Cougars recorded the 64-48 victory.

Dominique Gilbert registered a her seventh double-double of the season for the Lady Cougars with 20 points and 12 rebounds as well as a team high three blocks. Chatil Bradford and Lauren Matheney each totaled eight points as Carrie Washington collected 10 rebounds. Columbus State committed 15 turnovers and managed 12 steals as well as 20 assists. 

Head coach John Haskins gave all 13 athletes minutes on the court including eight players posting more than 10 minutes. With the loss, UNCP falls to fourth in the PBC east division and currently is tied for sixth with a .500 percent record in the league.

The Black and Gold will be back in action in less than 24 hours as the team battles Georgia Southwestern (12-5, 4-4) in Americus, Ga., with the game slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
