Braves Hit Century Mark Again In Rout Of Barber-Scotia

Box Score

PEMBROKE – Home-standing UNCP shot better than 56 percent from the field and had all five starters score in double figures as the Braves ran their win streak out to three games with a 106-45 victory over Barber-Scotia on Thursday evening.

The output saw UNCP (4-3) top the century mark for the second-straight game and gave the Braves a win in their home opener for the third-straight season as well. The setback marked the third-straight loss for the Sabers (1-9) who have now yielded 100 points or more on four occasions this season.

All five Braves in the starting lineup recorded double-digit scoring, led by a 20-point, 5-assist, 6-rebound effort from Fayetteville native Alex Bradley who was making his second career start in as many games. Fellow freshman Quamain Rose added 18 points, seven steals and four rebounds. George Blakeney reached double figures for the second-straight game, this time registering 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks, while Brandon Winford chipped in a dozen points and eight rebounds.

Shahmel Brackett, who had missed the previous three games with an undisclosed injury, scored 14 points and added a career-best nine assists as well. LaKeith Scott scored a team-best 15 points for Barber-Scotia, who also got 11 points from Jabraile Newkirk.

"We did some good things tonight," said UNCP head coach Ben Miller. "We did take better care of the ball in the second half, but I thought we were putting them at the free throw line way too much. We should be an excellent rebounding team with our size, and I thought that we did a much better job of that in the first half tonight."

The Braves had pushed a 27-point halftime lead out to 40 just less than five minutes into the second half and then extended that margin out to 81-31 seven minutes later. The Braves reached the century mark on a jumper by James McGhee with 1:39 to play, who also scored the final points for the hosts on a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left.

UNCP scored the first 11 points of the game and led 21-5 less than nine minutes into the contest. The Black & Gold would eventually tote a 46-19 lead into the break.

The Braves will continue their three-game home stand on Sunday when they suit up to host a rematch with St. Andrews (0-7) in a 2 p.m. tilt in the Jones Center. UNCP defeated the Knights 106-59 on November 25 at the Zaxby's Tip Off Clazzic in Florence, S.C.
