PEMBROKE – With four athletes in double figures and DeDe Cotten with a double-double, the UNCP women's basketball team grabbed its 10th Peach Belt Conference victory of the season over Armstrong Atlantic, 74-48, on Saturday afternoon in the English E. Jones Center.

This marks the first time since the 2006-07 season that UNCP (13-11, 10-6 PBC) has collected 10 wins in a season and the third time in the John Haskins era that the team has posted double digit wins in conference action. The Lady Braves shot its second-best percentage this season from the field with 43.3 percent as well as 54.8 percent in the first half alone. In defensive action, UNCP outrebounded Armstrong (13-11, 7-9) 45-36 and also committed four fewer fouls than the Lady Pirates. 

Cotten posted 12 points and 10 defensive rebounds in her 32 minutes of action as well as four steals. Senior Domonique Washington knocked down a game-high 18 points, while Jazmine Kemp totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Courtney Bolton returned to the court for the first time in three games and collected 12 points along with seven rebounds.

"In the first half we had the most points we have ever scored in a half this year, and the highest percentage we have shot so far this year in a half anyways," said UNCP head coach John Haskins. "I thought we shared the ball well and executed well, and we got some easy ones in transition which was nice."

UNCP took the first lead and used a 13-0 run starting with 15:27 left in the first half to take a 16-point lead at the 11:22 mark. The Lady Braves settled at the half with a score of 41-28 as the squad scored eight points off Armstrong turnovers along with 18 points in the paint. UNCP pulled ahead in the second half by 31 points with less than five minutes left in the game. Overall, the Lady Braves scored 14 points on Armstrong's 17 turnovers.

D.D. Gipson was the only Lady Pirate to post 12 points as she led the team in scoring, while Mauri Wells notched 13 rebounds. The team shot 29.0 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from the arc. Armstrong was 7-of-11 in foul shooting compared to UNCP that was 16-of-16 from the charity stripe.

The Black and Gold will finish up the home portion of its schedule on Sunday as the Lady Braves host Flagler (3-20, 2-14) in a 1:30 p.m. match. Admission prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children 18 years of age and younger. UNCP students are admitted free with a valid Braves Card.
